Tamu Mcpherson – My Milan
Tamu McPherson is the blogger and photographer behind All The Pretty Birds. Tamu lives in Milan and is always on the hunt for fresh locations – whether it’s to shoot a story or spot the best street style, her eye is always on the aesthetic, making her the perfect person to tour the city with!
3 places that define the spirit of your city? The Duomo, the Scala, and now Piazza Gae Aulenti where there are new skyscrapers that reshape the Milan’s skyline.
How does your work shape your experience of your city? I live in the centre of Milan and I am centrally located to my favourite places. I pay very close attention when I leave the centre and always try to scout new locations and attractions for both my work and my life, which are closely connected.
For someone visiting your city for a day, what’s your must-do? Walk through Galleria Vittorio Emanuele in the morning or late at night to the Piazza Duomo – let the Galleria lamps guide you to what is in my opinion, the most beautiful of the Italian cathedrals. The details and statues that adorn the facade of the Duomo are mind-blowingly intricate, and the surrounding structures and palazzos in the piazza are all in perfect harmony. The view never gets old!
For a moment’s peace in your city head to… The tiny streets in Brera. They are perfect for losing yourself in silence.
For art inspiration head to… Hugh Findletar‘s Studio. He is the artist behind the stunning Flowerheadz vases. He’s a never ending source of inspiration – a mile a minute creative.
What the thing, person or place that most inspires you about your city? The Duomo because it is an extraordinary example of the incredible work the human hand can produce.
